Year 6 Harriers have been entered into an exciting new project known as ‘Quadblogging’. They will be linked with 3 other schools (2 from Manchester and 1 from New Zealand) and each will take a turn at being the ‘blogging’ school whilst the others read and comment on the blogs.
Comments are very welcome from parents – please support this blog as well as you did the Ingleborough Hall blog.

Thanks

Day 4- At last the sun comes out!

Filed under: Uncategorized — 2011year6 at 7:40 pm on Thursday, September 15, 2011

Group 1-Today we went on a village trail and went into the church to learn about the Farrer family, who used to live at Ingleborough Hall. This afternoon we did orienteering. It was fun and we completed it all even the really difficult ones. As a reward we got to play in the playground and on the trim trail.

Group 2- Today we did gorge scrambling. I found it really fun. the best part of the day was when Charlotte slipped and fell into a pool and then Edward dunked his head under the water and got a bit wet! Then we came back washed our boots and did some problem solving. We had to  make a rubix cube and then keep a ball in the drainpipes to the bucket.

Group 3-Today we went caving and had a blast, unfortunately the wet cold water splashed into our wellies and when we tipped it out it was like a mini waterfall ! In the darkness of the damp cave we crawled in through tight spaces and walked in complete darkness. It was fab! As the sun was out, we then had a picnic in the park.

Group 4- Today we went up to Ingleborough moutain it was really good. We got really good conditions for walking up. The view from the mountain was fantastic and Mr Oakes even remembered the mars bars. When we were coming back we went down a really steep and rocky hill and counted the steps, there was loads.

Right now we are in the middle of sports night and we will be having Sarah’s birthday cake for supper.  Overall we have had a lot of fun. See you all tomorrow!

Day 3- Yet more rain and a visit from the rest of Year 6 !

Filed under: Uncategorized — 2011year6 at 7:35 pm on Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Group 1- a wet start to the day walking to Ingleborough showcave with the rest of the year 6 pupils, the showcave has been around more then 30 thousand years. Then later on in the day we went exploring caves and going down water slides- we all got very wet!
Group 2- today rain was pouring down on all of us!  We met up with the other children who unfortunately weren’t able to come with us.  All of us went to the showcave and it was so much fun.  After, we got an ice cream in the rain!  Such an odd time to have an ice cream eh?  We then had a walk around the beautiful village of Clapham and at that point the sun had finally come out. Yippee!  We went to the park and had lots and lots of fun.   While everyone was playing, the funniest thing happend ever.    Ms. Davidson was talking to Mrs.Mayo and Ms. Davidson tripped over!  She was waggling her legs rapidly, not able to move, laughing her head off. We all had to help her get up but that has been the most memorable time of the day!

Group 3-We had a very wet start to the day, then we started to walk up the wet and cold mountain. We eventually got to the top after a long day’s hard work, only to find that Mrs O had forgotten the Mars Bars! However, we still felt really happy, even though it was a bit cloudy, which spoilt the view! But then we had to walk all the way down again then had a nice warm shower.

Group 4
Today we woke up nice and early ready for the tasks ahead. Our activity for today was gorge scrambling. So we set off in the minibus. It was a long, long half an hour ride to the gorge although we finally got there and a few enjoyed it and some weren’t so sure! Eventually it was time to make a move so we set back off to Clapham.

Staff Update

Today we said goodbye to Mrs Atkins and welcomed Mr Oakes and Ms Davidson. It was brilliant to have the rest of Year 6 joining us for the day too, although they had promised sunshine and instead brought pouring rain! Not to worry, we still had lots of fun and the children enjoyed sharing their experiences of the week. Fingers crossed for sun tomorrow!

Day 2 – Another great day at Ingleborough Hall

Filed under: Uncategorized — 2011year6 at 7:10 pm on Tuesday, September 13, 2011

Group 1: Today we set off to an extremely windy and hard going Ingleborough mountain…we achieved our goal because we got right to the very top and got in a circle to touch the trig point, then got a mars bar as a reward- yum yum!
Group2: We also set off to climb Ingleborough knowing we had a huge climb ahead and set off a different way to the others. Our route was shorter however a lot harder because it was steeper and rocky. Anyway we eventually got to the top, hoping we could beat Group 1. as we raced to the top everyone was blown about in big gusts of wind, but we made it first! Having a great time with our friends .
Group3 and group4;Today both groups went to the show cave. It was really cool and we loved every minute of it.we even put a candle on and turned the lights off and we found a little brick building which pumped to local farms (and both groups were complimented on their excellent behaviour and manners- well done! Mrs A and Mrs O).

Staff Update

We are pleased to report that everyone is fit and well and having an amazing experience in this beautiful setting. Although sleep was rather limited last night, the children are all eating everything in sight and seem to have plenty of energy! It has been great to read all of your comments and know that our blog has such an appreciative audience at home.

Hi Parents, just to clear up some confusion about comments – once you have sent one they are sent into a queue to be moderated by Mrs Mayo. This is just to make sure that only parents/relatives/friends can comment and the Harriers blog is not over-run with adverts and other spam messages!

So don’t worry – your messages have not been lost and will show up shortly!

Day1- A windy day in Ingleborough!

Filed under: Uncategorized — 2011year6 at 7:07 pm on Monday, September 12, 2011

After a brilliant journey, we arrived safely at Ingleborough Hall, ate our lunch and we were straight into the action.
Group 1-In group one today we were busy solving problems and learning to work as a team. Some of us found the listening part a little tricky! Then we challenged Group 2 to a fun game of rounders, which we sadly lost, but only just!
Group 2-We did exciting orienteering.Luckily we didn’t get lost!We also found a fabulous adventure playground, but some of us started in the middle of the course, instead of the start!
For tea most of us had pizza, chips and peas and for pudding we had gorgeous strawberry mousse!
Group 3 went gorge scrambling and had a brilliant time. We climbed up a long way over a lot of rocks and go wet at the top. Then, Elliott even went for a swim in the muddy water, and got very wet.
Group 4 explored through local caves . We tried to lose Mrs Atkins but unfortunately she kept following us. We have to crawl through some narrow spaces.Tonight we are country dancing and looking forword to bacon and eggs tomorrow for breakfast yum yum!
